Gaddafi Stadium to be prepared for Champions Trophy 2025 by January 25

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced that the upgrades to the iconic Gaddafi Stadium will be completed by January 25, with a grand inauguration planned for January 27.

In a recent media briefing at the stadium, Naqvi expressed confidence that the enhancements would be finished on time. The revamped stadium, which can hold over 34,000 spectators, is set to offer a refreshed experience for visitors. Naqvi also highlighted that the construction of the stadium’s structure is complete, with final touches underway. Additionally, new scoreboards are being installed on both sides of the ground.

The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for January 27, will see the attendance of notable figures in the cricketing world.

Turning to the performance of Pakistan’s national cricket team on their ongoing South Africa tour, Naqvi acknowledged the team’s struggles, particularly following their defeat in the first Test and the follow-on in the second. Despite the setbacks, he emphasized the importance of perseverance, stating, “The team is fighting, and this is what matters most.”

Naqvi also addressed concerns regarding young opener Saim Ayub, assuring that the PCB would ensure his well-being. Saim, a rising talent, will travel to London for medical treatment under a renowned sports doctor, with assistant coach Azhar Mahmood accompanying him. “Saim Ayub is an asset to Pakistan, and we are committed to his speedy recovery,” Naqvi said.

On December 24, 2024, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the schedule for the 2025 Men’s Champions Trophy, which will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Dubai from February 19 to March 9, 2025. The tournament will feature 15 matches across three venues in Pakistan β€” Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi β€” and Dubai. Teams are divided into two groups: Group A (Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh) and Group B (Afghanistan, South Africa, England, Australia), ensuring a competitive and exciting series for cricket fans worldwide.
