Fly Jinnah, Pakistan’s sole low-cost airline, has received approval from Bangladeshi authorities to operate direct flights between Karachi and Dhaka, marking a key step in enhancing air connectivity between the two countries.
This approval follows an announcement last week by Mohammad Iqbal Hussain, Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, who confirmed that direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh were expected to begin soon. He also mentioned plans to introduce cargo flights between Dhaka, Karachi, and Lahore to boost trade and business between the two nations.
Air Vice Marshal Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), confirmed that Fly Jinnah’s request had been approved. He noted that the airline would need to appoint a General Sales Agent (GSA) before finalizing flight schedules and frequencies.
Reports also indicated that the new air link would follow the establishment of a direct shipping route between Chittagong and Karachi, aimed at enhancing economic ties between the countries.
Abdul Naser Khan, Additional Secretary at Bangladesh’s Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, stated that an agreement would soon be signed to resume direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi.
The return of direct flights is expected to strengthen business, tourism, and people-to-people interactions, contributing to closer ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
