Finance Minister Signals Budget Relief for Salaried Class

LAHORE:
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb hinted on Sunday that the government is considering measures to ease the financial burden on salaried individuals in the upcoming federal budget, as economic indicators remain positive.

Speaking at the Unified Marathon event organized by Special Olympics Pakistan in Lahore, Aurangzeb shared that preparations for the 2025-26 budget are in progress, with input from the business community.

“We have initiated work on this year’s budget after thorough discussions with business leaders,” he said. He emphasized that while the government plays a key role, the private sector is the real driving force behind the country’s economic growth.

Aurangzeb stressed the need for policy stability and continuity to support the private sector effectively. He also highlighted ongoing reforms within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) aimed at promoting tax compliance, reducing the burden on the manufacturing sector, and providing relief to salaried workers.

The finance minister expressed optimism about the country’s economic outlook, stating that stability has been achieved and growth is on the horizon. “The stock market is performing well, key economic indicators are positive, the currency remains stable, and foreign exchange reserves have improved,” he noted.

He reiterated that all sectors must contribute to sustainable economic progress, emphasizing that speculation-driven growth is not a viable strategy.

Acknowledging the contributions of overseas Pakistanis, Aurangzeb expressed appreciation for their remittances, predicting that inflows could reach $35 billion this year. He also noted the steady expansion of the Roshan Digital Account initiative, which continues to attract investment from the Pakistani diaspora.
