Experts Call for Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection Along CPEC Route
KARACHI:Experts from Pakistan and abroad, speaking at the conclusion of a two-day conference on “CPEC Energy Infrastructure and Socio-Economic Changes: Challenges, Opportunities, and Sustainable Development,” outlined key strategies for addressing environmental concerns and promoting sustainable growth along the CPEC corridor.
The conference, held at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tando Jam in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Xiβan Jiaotong University, China, explored the multifaceted impact of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), particularly focusing on its energy infrastructure and socio-economic implications.
Among the significant recommendations, speakers highlighted the urgent need for stringent environmental policies to counteract the adverse effects of coal mining in Tharparkar. They also stressed the importance of monitoring and improving groundwater quality along the CPEC coastal route.
Furthermore, the conference underscored the necessity of advancing agricultural and livestock initiatives in Sindh under CPEC projects. Experts advocated for adopting climate-smart practices to boost food security and ensure sustainable development.
