England cruised to a six-wicket victory over Pakistan in their ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup match on Monday at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval in Johor, Malaysia, as confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Pakistan posted a modest total of 66 runs, all out in 18.5 overs, after being asked to bat first. Zoofishan Ayyaz was the top scorer with 15 runs from 13 balls, while captain Komal Khan contributed 12 runs off 25 balls. England’s Amuruthaa Surenkumar was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 17 runs, supported by Tilly Corteen-Coleman and Olivia Brinsden, who both claimed two wickets.
England chased down the target in just 9.2 overs, reaching 67-4. Despite being at 33-4, a 34-run unbeaten partnership between Katie Jones (20 not out) and captain Abigale Norgrove (14 not out) ensured England’s victory. Pakistan’s Mahnoor Zeb took two wickets, with Fatima Khan and Quratulain picking up one wicket each.
This win marks England’s first in the tournament, while Pakistan, with one point from their washed-out game against the US, now sits third in Group B. Pakistan will need to perform well in their upcoming matches to stay in contention for a spot in the knockout stages.
