Elon Musk’s Key DOGE Associate Marko Elez Steps Down Following Emergence of Racist Social Media Posts

Key Figure in Musk’s Government Reform Agency Resigns Over Racist, Eugenics-Linked Posts

Marko Elez, a senior figure in Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has resigned after resurfaced social media posts linked to him contained racist and eugenics-promoting rhetoric.

Elez’s abrupt departure comes just hours after he was granted restricted access to a $5 trillion Treasury payment system, further fueling controversy over Musk’s role in reshaping government operations.

According to The Wall Street Journal, an X account linked to Elez—now deleted—advocated for repealing the Civil Rights Act and supported a eugenics-based immigration policy. Other posts allegedly included remarks such as, “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity” and “Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool.” The account also reportedly contained inflammatory comments on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed Elez’s resignation, while Virginia Congressman Don Beyer called the situation “a scandal”, criticizing Musk for appointing “a self-described racist” and granting him access to sensitive government systems.

A computer science graduate from Rutgers University, Elez previously worked at SpaceX, Starlink, and X, specializing in AI development. His resignation has intensified scrutiny on DOGE—an agency Musk has promoted as a tool to curb government inefficiency.

With DOGE’s growing influence and Musk personally selecting high-clearance staff, Elez’s exit raises urgent questions about the agency’s vetting process and its expanding role in federal governance.
