Emirates’ Call Sign ‘EK’ and Its Connection to Karachi
Emirates, now one of the world’s leading airlines, has a deep-rooted connection to Karachi and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), both of which played a crucial role in its early success.
The airline’s journey officially began on October 25, 1985, with its inaugural flight from Dubai to Karachi. This historic flight was operated using a PIA Airbus A300, along with its crew, marking a significant milestone in the aviation industry.
As a tribute to its beginnings, Emirates adopted the call sign “EK”, combining the first letter of its name (E) with K for Karachi. This designation remains in use today, symbolizing the airline’s origins and the critical support it received during its formative years.
Over the decades, Emirates has grown into a global aviation giant, yet its early ties to Karachi and its foundational support from PIA remain an integral part of its history.
