ECP Deregisters Three Political Parties Over Missing Intra-Party Elections

ECP Delists Three Political Parties for Failing to Hold Intra-Party Elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has struck three political parties from its list of registered organizations for failing to conduct intra-party elections, as mandated by law.

An official notification revealed that the Pakistan National Party (PNP), National Democratic Party (NDP), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Nizam (PTN) were delisted due to their failure to hold the required elections within the designated time period.

This action aligns with the ECP’s ongoing efforts to enforce the Political Parties Order of 2002, which requires all registered political parties in Pakistan to organize intra-party elections to promote internal democracy and accountability.

In contrast, the ECP has officially recognized Tehreek-e-Suba Hazara Pakistan (TSHP) as a registered party after it successfully conducted its intra-party elections in November 2024.

Furthermore, the ECP also added Awaam Pakistan (AP) to its list of recognized parties after the group completed its intra-party elections in June 2024. Awaam Pakistan, led by former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and ex-Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, was founded following their departure from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) due to internal differences. Abbasi will serve as the party president, with Ismail taking on the role of secretary general.
