Dubai Warns of Traffic Disruptions During Champions Trophy Final Today

DUBAI: Authorities have issued warnings about potential traffic disruptions as cricket fans flock to Dubai Sports City for the highly anticipated Champions Trophy 2025 final between New Zealand and India on Sunday. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which oversees the city’s transportation network, has encouraged fans to use public transport to avoid congestion around the venue.

In a post on X, the RTA advised, “Park your vehicle at Centrepoint, e&, or Jabal Ali metro stations, then take the Dubai Metro to Jumeirah Golf Estates Station. From there, free public buses will be available from 10am to ensure a smooth journey to the event venue.” The authority highlighted that heavy traffic is expected on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Hessa Street during the match, with slowdowns likely between 11:00am and 2:00pm, and again from 8:00pm to 11:00pm as fans travel to and from the stadium.

To handle the large crowds and maintain traffic efficiency, volunteers and traffic management teams will be stationed around Dubai Sports City to assist the public. Authorities have also urged residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel in the area during match hours.

In addition to traffic advisories, Dubai Police have issued strict warnings to spectators regarding behavior during the event. Violations of sports laws, such as the use of dangerous materials, fireworks, or flammable substances, could lead to imprisonment for one to three months or fines ranging from Rs380,000 to Rs2,285,000 (AED5,000 to AED30,000). Acts of violence, racism, or political activities at the stadium will not be tolerated, and offenders will face severe penalties.

The police also emphasized that throwing objects or liquids at players or other fans could result in fines ranging from Rs761,000 to Rs2.285 million (AED10,000 to AED30,000). Fans have been urged to adhere to the rules and maintain a respectful atmosphere during the match.
