DG ISPR holds press conference

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), is addressing a press conference to discuss the armed forces’ counterterrorism operations. This comes as attacks targeting security forces, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), have increased.

This is the fifth press briefing by ISPR this year. According to the interior ministry, nearly 1,000 terrorism incidents occurred in KP this year, resulting in 583 deaths. Counterterrorism efforts have led to the deaths of 341 terrorists in over 2,800 intelligence-based operations.

In a recent attack in KP’s South Waziristan district, 16 soldiers were martyred, while eight terrorists were killed. Following this, more terrorists were killed in subsequent operations across multiple districts.

The press conference also addresses developments regarding the military’s self-accountability and actions against individuals involved in last year’s May 9 riots. Recently, 85 civilians received prison sentences for their roles in violent protests, which were allegedly coordinated by the PTI. Additionally, former intelligence chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, arrested in August, faces charges related to political activities.

General Chaudhry had previously emphasized the importance of tackling digital terrorism and the spread of fake news and propaganda in the country.
