Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Criticizes Kevin Feige Over Marvel’s Box Office Struggles

Rob Liefeld, co-creator of Deadpool, has taken aim at Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, suggesting his time at the helm of the MCU may be coming to an end.

Following the release of Captain America: Brave New World, Liefeld voiced his frustration on X (formerly Twitter) after the film suffered a massive 68% drop in its second weekend—one of the steepest declines in Marvel history.

“Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent,” Liefeld posted, comparing Marvel’s recent struggles to a worn-out baseball pitcher who has lost his edge.

Liefeld continued his criticism, pointing out that Brave New World is part of a growing pattern of Marvel movies experiencing drastic second-weekend declines. He referenced The Marvels, which holds the record with a 78% drop, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which also fell by 68%.

“This isn’t just a trend anymore—it’s the new normal,” he wrote. “If this were sports, Feige would have been replaced. Marvel is a powerhouse brand like the Dodgers, Lakers, Yankees, or Celtics. Coaches get fired even after winning championships if they can’t maintain success.”

Not holding back, Liefeld added, “Eight movies have crashed over the last three years. Don’t we want better films? The curiosity factor gets people in the first weekend, then the numbers collapse.”

Liefeld’s criticism of Marvel isn’t new. Earlier this year, he expressed his frustration over being snubbed at the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere, revealing on his Robservations podcast that Feige ignored him on the red carpet. He also claimed that photos taken with the film’s creative team were later deleted and only taken to “appease” him.

While it remains to be seen whether Feige will address Liefeld’s comments, Marvel’s declining box office performance continues to spark debate, and Liefeld isn’t shying away from calling it out.
