Dar Urges Self-Determination Rights for Kashmiris

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized on Friday that the people of Jammu and Kashmir must be granted the right to self-determination in line with longstanding United Nations Security Council resolutions.

In an interview with TRT World, Dar stated that India could not alter the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir by resettling outsiders. He further noted that India’s unilateral actions in 2019 regarding the region were in violation of the UN Charter and decades-old Security Council resolutions.

Dar stressed that the right to self-determination should be upheld for both the people of Kashmir and Palestine.

He highlighted the enduring brotherly ties between Pakistan and Turkiye, noting that the leadership of both nations had consistently collaborated on key global issues.

He pointed out that the recent 7th High-Level Strategic Council meeting, co-chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, focused on security and international challenges. The talks resulted in the signing of multiple memorandums of understanding.

Dar added that foreign ministers from both nations would oversee the progress of 11 joint working groups established by the council, reporting back to the leadership for further action.

Pakistan and Turkiye maintain strong cooperation in trade, investment, defense, security, and counterterrorism efforts, he noted. As part of their defense collaboration, both countries are set to jointly manufacture naval ships.
