Chloe Bailey Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Songwriting and Copyright Violations

Songwriter and producer Melvin Moore has filed a lawsuit against Chloe Bailey, along with her record labels, Columbia Records and Parkwood Entertainment, accusing them of deceptive business practices and unauthorized use of his work.

According to Variety, Moore claims he was not properly credited or compensated for his contributions to Bailey’s 2024 album, Trouble in Paradise, specifically on the tracks “Favorite,” “Same Lingerie,” and “Might as Well.”

Moore, also known as OneInThe4Rest (4Rest), is a Grammy-nominated songwriter who has worked with Usher, Chris Brown, John Legend, BTS, Kanye West, and Drake. His legal complaint, filed on February 20, 2025, accuses Bailey and her team of copyright infringement, fraudulent misrepresentation, unjust enrichment, civil conspiracy, and violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

The lawsuit highlights that Moore’s lyrics and narratives were drawn from his personal experiences, making their alleged unauthorized use particularly significant. His legal team has labeled Bailey’s handling of the situation as that of “modern-day swindlers,” claiming that no effort was made to resolve the issue before legal action was taken.

Moore is demanding statutory damages of up to $150,000 per infringement, along with $5 million in punitive damages per song. A cease-and-desist letter has also been sent to Bailey’s team, requesting $10,000 in compensation and the immediate suspension of the songs’ distribution until a resolution is reached.

This lawsuit follows a statement from Tiffany Red, founder of the 100 Percenters music advocacy group, who criticized Bailey for allegedly releasing Moore’s work without consent or payment. As of now, Chloe Bailey and her record labels have not publicly responded to the allegations.
