YouTuber Chibi Reviews Faces Controversy Amid Allegations and Online Backlash
Jacob Seibers, widely recognized for his anime and manga content under the name Chibi Reviews, is currently at the center of a major controversy.
With a subscriber base exceeding 466K, Seibers is known for his frequent anime reviews and community updates. His journey on YouTube began in 2013, though his original channel was later suspended. He rebranded as Chibi Reviews in December of the same year and transitioned to full-time content creation by mid-2014. His reviews, particularly on series like Unlimited Blade Works and Tokyo Ghoul, have gained significant traction, with his most-watched video nearing 1 million views. Additionally, he manages a secondary channel, Chibi Otaku, which has a modest following of around 1.2K subscribers.
Recently, Seibers has come under fire following serious allegations made by his alleged ex-girlfriend, Samantha May (@samieesweetiee). In November 2024, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse him of emotional abuse, claiming he manipulated and mistreated her, leading to severe weight loss, reportedly dropping to 70 lbs (31 kg). May described the relationship as toxic, stating, “I was constantly taken advantage of, neglected, and treated horribly.” She also hinted at possible infidelity, responding to a comment suggesting Seibers had been unfaithful.
These accusations have reignited past criticisms of Seibers, who previously sparked controversy with remarks about anime translations. In early 2024, he labeled English dubs as “woke” and made divisive statements about the LGBTQ+ community, alleging a connection to a “woke agenda.”
Further fueling the situation, Seibers’ X account was recently hacked, with the attacker posting disturbing content related to child abuse, resulting in the account’s temporary suspension. In response, he launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking $25K for legal action. However, this move has faced backlash, with many accusing him of using the controversy to solicit financial support from his followers.
