Brittney Spencer reached a career milestone by collaborating with Beyoncé, reflecting on the experience in a conversation with People magazine after their Netflix Beyoncé Bowl performance.
The 36-year-old country singer shared her thoughts before performing with Beyoncé: “Oh, gosh, I think the thing that was mostly going through my head was, ‘Bitch, don’t mess up next to Beyoncé.'” Spencer, who performed “BLACKBIIRD,” a cover of The Beatles’ 1968 classic, alongside Beyoncé, Tanner Adell, Reyna Roberts, and Tiera Kennedy, admitted that this thought lingered until the performance was over.
Beyoncé invited four Black female country artists, including Spencer, to contribute to “BLACKBIIRD” on her album Cowboy Carter, which won Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
Spencer and Beyoncé performed the song live for the first time at the halftime show at NRG Stadium in Houston. Reflecting on the experience, Spencer said, “I learned a great deal being with [Beyoncé], being with her team, and getting a little bit of an inside look into how things run in her world. That was a really defining moment for me.”
Spencer emphasized the significance of the performance, especially for Black girls who now understand the story behind the song thanks to Beyoncé. She added, “It felt like a moment that we all could share and I’ll never forget it.”
