RIO DE JANEIRO: The BRICS nations are set to convene for a summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7, as announced by Brazil, the current chair of the bloc.
The BRICS alliance, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with additional member and associate nations, will gather to discuss key economic and strategic initiatives.
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira shared the news on the social media platform X, emphasizing that leaders from 20 countries will participate.
βThis summit will lead to significant decisions that will drive development, enhance cooperation, and improve the quality of life for people across all member nations,β Vieira stated.
The summit comes amid rising tensions with the United States, as President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 100% tariffs on BRICS nations if they take actions that undermine the U.S. dollar.
At the last BRICS summit, held in October in Russia, member states explored ways to reduce reliance on the dollar and strengthen local currency-based trade.
For Brazil, a key priority within the bloc is advancing new payment systems to facilitate economic transactions among members.
