Texas Businessman’s $10 Million Malibu Mansion Survives Wildfires

David Steiner, a Texas businessman, was astonished to find that his $10 million Malibu mansion survived the catastrophic Palisades Fire, which has destroyed over 5,000 homes and businesses in the area.

Steiner’s three-story, 4,200-square-foot home was the only one left intact in his neighborhood after the devastating blaze, which has claimed at least 10 lives.

Initially, Steiner feared the worst after receiving distressing updates from friends and family. However, upon seeing photos showing his home still standing, he felt a sense of relief. “It brought a pretty big smile to my face at a pretty bad time,” he told The New York Post. His wife’s message, saying “Last house standing,” brought further comfort during the disaster.

When asked why his home survived, Steiner credited its fire-resistant construction, which includes stucco and stone materials along with a fireproof roof. Additionally, the mansion’s pilings, which extend 50 feet into the bedrock, contribute to its durability. “It’s actually built like a cruise ship,” he remarked, pointing out unique features like a chimney that resembles a boat’s smokestack.

Despite his relief, Steiner expressed deep sympathy for those who lost their homes. “What I lost is material goods. Others lost their homes,” he said. High-profile individuals such as Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal were also affected by the fire.

Steiner acknowledged the greater tragedy, adding, “I didn’t have my family’s mementos there. It wasn’t my family home. My heart goes out to those who lost their homes.”
