Bilawal Calls Climate Change the Biggest Problem’ for Future Generations

Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), spoke at the Sindh University convocation, stressing the urgent need to tackle climate change and prepare for future floods. He called climate change the “biggest problem” facing the world, pointing out the devastating floods in Sindh in 2022. These floods killed over 678 people, displaced millions, destroyed homes, ruined crops, and caused the deaths of animals.

Bilawal highlighted the need for better disaster preparedness and criticized power outages and the outdated energy system. He suggested using Sindh’s Thar coalfield, one of the world’s largest, to produce cheap electricity and help with climate change challenges.

Bilawal also addressed the issue of internet censorship, calling for an end to internet slowdowns and restrictions. He emphasized that access to the internet is now a key part of infrastructure, like roads and highways. He criticized the government’s attempts to control citizens by limiting internet access and condemned the ban on student unions as an effort to suppress youth voices.

He encouraged young people to fight for digital freedom and suggested creating a “digital bill of rights,” written by students, not older politicians. Bilawal stated that affordable access to high-speed internet is a basic human right and urged students to share their ideas for this digital bill.
