Aurangzeb Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Economic Reforms During Washington Talks

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has reiterated the country’s dedication to economic reforms and sustainable growth during high-level discussions with global financial leaders.

In a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at the 2025 Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group in Washington, Aurangzeb expressed gratitude for the IMF’s Staff-Level Agreement on the First Review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the new arrangement under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). He also extended an invitation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for Georgieva to visit Pakistan.

During his conversation with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, Aurangzeb praised the Bank’s ongoing support and commended its leadership in developing the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF). This 10-year strategic roadmap aims to bring measurable impact, focusing on vital areas such as climate resilience and managing population growth.

Aurangzeb also had a meeting with Robert Kaproth, Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he shared positive updates on Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic indicators. He highlighted the ongoing reforms in sectors like taxation, energy, privatization, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), pensions, and debt management.

Throughout these discussions, the finance minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing economic reforms and ensuring long-term financial stability for Pakistan.
