Finance Minister Aurangzeb Heads to U.S. for Key Global Economic Meetings
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb departed for the United States on Saturday to participate in the 2025 Spring Meetings organized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, according to a report by Radio Pakistan.
These high-profile meetings, taking place from April 21 to 26, will gather finance leaders, central bank officials, and development experts from across the globe to discuss pressing global economic issues.
During his visit, Aurangzeb is scheduled to meet top representatives from the IMF, World Bank, major credit rating agencies, and leading commercial and investment banks. He will also hold bilateral discussions with finance ministers from key countries including China, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye. In addition, meetings are planned with senior officials from the U.S. Department of State and Treasury.
Aurangzeb will represent Pakistan at the 13th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, highlighting the country’s ongoing commitment to sustainable economic practices.
Key topics expected to dominate the agenda at the spring meetings include rising global trade tensions and instability in financial markets. Just a day prior, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned that increasing trade disputes and structural changes in global commerce could lead to a downgrade in economic forecasts, though she ruled out the possibility of a global recession.
Diplomatic insiders believe the finance minister may use the opportunity to initiate dialogue with U.S. officials regarding the proposed 29% tariff on Pakistani exports introduced by the Trump administration. A Pakistani trade delegation is also expected to visit the U.S. following Aurangzeb’s trip to formally discuss the issue.
