Atletico Madrid moved to the top of La Liga with a 2-1 comeback win over Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Saturday. A last-minute goal from substitute Alexander Sorloth sealed the victory, extending Atletico’s unbeaten streak to 12 games and giving them a three-point lead at the top, with a game in hand.
Barcelona took the lead in the 30th minute when Pedri scored after a quick pass from Gavi. Despite missing young star Lamine Yamal due to injury, Barcelona had several chances to increase their lead, but Atletico responded in the second half. Rodrigo De Paul equalized in the 62nd minute with a powerful shot following a mistake by Barcelona’s Marc Casado.
Both teams pushed for a winner, but it was Atletico who found it in stoppage time. Nahuel Molina crossed the ball to Sorloth, who scored to secure all three points.
Atletico’s goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, celebrated the victory, calling it “incredible” and praising the team’s resilience. This win was also historic for manager Diego Simeone, as it was his first-ever away victory against Barcelona in La Liga.
Barcelona has now lost three consecutive home games, their worst streak since 1987. They have won just one of their last seven league matches, and their season is facing challenges.
Despite the loss, Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, remained hopeful, saying they will fight for every point to win the league. Atletico’s late-game success has been key this season, with Sorloth now their top scorer with eight goals.
With the winter break approaching, Atletico are firmly in first place, while Barcelona need to improve their form for the rest of the season.
