Armie Hammer opened up about the impact of the cannibalism allegations on his career in a recent interview. The 38-year-old actor’s Hollywood prospects were significantly affected when rumors about him wanting to commit cannibalism went viral.
Reflecting on the frenzy during the pandemic, he shared, “The world seemed like it was falling apart, and people were deeply unhappy with their own lives. Then, this sensational story came out about an actor wanting to murder and eat people, and suddenly, everyone was more interested in that than the fact they couldn’t leave their homes.” Hammer spoke on the Your Mom’s House podcast on January 1st.
The actor, known for his role in Call Me by Your Name, was accused of rape by an ex-girlfriend in 2021. His private messages, which discussed controversial fantasies, went viral, further fueling the allegations.
Hammer denied the claims, insisting all his sexual encounters were consensual. A Los Angeles police investigation, which ended in May 2023, did not result in any charges against him.
During the podcast, Hammer described the situation as “a wild time,” recalling that he had been thrust into “full panic mode.” He revealed that in March 2021, he became the fifth most-searched person on Google, but all the attention surrounding him was negative.
