Angelina Jolie didn’t realize she had to sing in the movie Maria. She initially thought movie singing would be easy and that she could handle it.
However, when she was asked to sing opera, she quickly realized it wasn’t something she could fake. Jolie admitted, “I made the mistake in the beginning of thinking I could sing a bit.” She didn’t expect to actually sing opera, but her director, Pablo Larrain, had already arranged for her to have opera lessons.
Jolie said she started crying in her first opera lesson because she wasn’t prepared for the challenge.
The film, set in the 1970s, is a biopic of the famous opera singer Maria Callas, with Jolie playing the lead role.
