Amanda Seyfried Reflects on Unforgettable Audition Experience with Cynthia Erivo
Amanda Seyfried recently shared a memorable moment from her audition for the role of Glinda in the upcoming film adaptation of *Wicked*. During an episode of the *Happy Sad Confused* podcast, the *Mamma Mia!* actress opened up about singing alongside Cynthia Erivo during the audition process.
Seyfried, known for her roles in *Mean Girls* and *Les Misérables*, expressed how well-prepared she felt during the audition. “I was able to really prepare, and I’m telling you, I’ve never felt that solid in my voice than I did at the auditions. And that’s kind of what I got out of it,” she told host Josh Horowitz.
Reflecting on the experience, Seyfried added, “I do, again, think everything happens for a reason.” She revealed that her family still sings *Defying Gravity*, one of the iconic songs from *Wicked*, every day, even though she didn’t land the role of Glinda.
The actress also described the highlight of her audition experience: “I also got to sing with Cynthia, and that was a moment in itself.”
This revelation comes months after Cynthia Erivo, who will play Elphaba in *Wicked*, expressed her relief over Ariana Grande being cast as Glinda. In a November 2024 interview with *The New York Times*, Erivo said it was “no surprise whatsoever” that Grande secured the role.
“Thank goodness, because it was not the two ladies that I was auditioning with,” Erivo remarked at the time. While she didn’t name the other actresses who auditioned, Seyfried had previously disclosed that she was one of them.
Currently, Seyfried stars in *Long Bright River*, which began streaming on Peacock on March 13, 2025. Meanwhile, Erivo’s *Wicked: For Good*, a project tied to the *Wicked* franchise, wrapped production ahead of the release of the first installment of *Wicked*. The film is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025.
