Amanda Seyfried has made it clear that she is not vying for the role of Joni Mitchell in Cameron Crowe’s upcoming biopic, despite her recent performance of a verse from Mitchell’s 1971 classic *California* on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*.
During her appearance on the show, Seyfried delivered a soulful rendition of the iconic song, effortlessly hitting the high notes while playing the dulcimer. Her performance captivated fans, many of whom began advocating for her to be cast as a young Joni Mitchell in Crowe’s film.
However, Seyfried has since clarified that her performance was not an audition. Speaking on the *Just for Variety* podcast, she stated, “It was not an audition. In fact, I didn’t even consider that, which is funny. What I know about that project is that I’m very, very much aged-out of [playing] young Joni.”
While her *Tonight Show* moment may have sparked speculation, Seyfried has no shortage of projects to keep her busy. She is currently starring in *Long Bright River*, Peacock’s adaptation of Liz Moore’s bestselling novel. In the series, Seyfried plays Mickey Fitzpatrick, a police officer navigating the challenging streets of Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood, where a serial killer is preying on sex workers. The case takes a personal turn when Mickey’s sister, Casey (played by Ashleigh Cummings), goes missing.
Whether or not she lands the role of Joni Mitchell, Seyfried continues to showcase her versatility as an actress and performer. From gripping crime dramas to impromptu musical performances on late-night TV, she proves time and again that she can tackle a wide range of roles and challenges with ease.
