Aleema Khan Claims Imran Khan Will Suspend Remittances if His Demands Are Ignored

Aleema Khan, the sister of Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), criticized the current government, stating that her brother has warned he will stop remittances if his two demands are not met. In a media interview on Tuesday, she expressed concerns over the economic difficulties faced by millions of Pakistanis who have fallen below the poverty line following the fall of the PTI government. She further stated that overseas Pakistanis are willing to cease sending remittances in protest.

She highlighted the contradiction where the government takes dollars abroad while overseas workers send their earnings back to Pakistan, emphasizing the crucial role of remittances in the country’s economy.

Aleema claimed that PTIโ€™s downfall was part of a “London plan” designed to dismantle the party. She condemned the violent crackdown on peaceful protests, describing firsthand accounts of brutality during the November 24 protests, where several innocent people were killed, and 10 buildings were set on fire. She also questioned the legitimacy of the government formed after the February 9 vote.

Aleema added that her brother is deeply distressed and will not relent until his demands are addressed. She called for the formation of a judicial commission, consisting of three senior Supreme Court judges, to investigate the wrongful detention of innocent individuals.

She reiterated that if her brotherโ€™s demands are not met, Imran Khan will urge overseas Pakistanis to stop sending remittances. “Overseas Pakistanis have reached out to me, expressing their willingness to halt remittances, but PTI members advised Imran Khan to wait, fearing the impact on the country,” she said. Despite the pressure, she mentioned that her brother remains focused on the country’s well-being and is willing to give it a few more days before taking action.
