Afghan Commander Killed Alongside Militants in Security Forces Operation

Security forces have identified another Afghan militant killed in a recent operation targeting cross-border infiltration, as tensions between the two nations escalate over insurgent activities, security sources reported on Monday.

The militant, Mujib ur Rehman alias Mansoor, was among 14 insurgents eliminated during an intelligence-based operation in Ghulam Khan Kelay near the Afghan border on February 28, according to officials.

Rehman was a commander in the third battalion at Afghanistan’s Hazrat Muaz bin Jabal National Military Academy and hailed from Wardak province.

His identification follows a growing trend of Afghan nationals allegedly involved in militant activities on Pakistani territory.

In a similar operation on January 30, security forces neutralized Badruddin, an Afghan army lieutenant and the son of Badghis province’s deputy governor, in Dera Ismail Khan.

Security officials claim that Afghanistan’s interim government is not only failing to prevent cross-border incursions but is also providing logistical support to militant groups.

The militants’ possession of advanced weaponry suggests possible links between Afghan authorities and extremist groups such as Fitnatul Khawarij, officials noted.

“Afghanistan has become a haven for terrorist factions, with the interim government turning a blind eye to their activities,” a senior security official stated, requesting anonymity.

Defense analysts have urged the Afghan administration to shift its focus toward improving essential services, particularly in health and education, instead of enabling militant operations.

“Afghanistan is already grappling with economic and humanitarian crises. The government should prioritize rebuilding the country rather than fueling militancy,” said retired Brigadier Mahmood Shah, a defense analyst.

Security forces have warned that most Afghan nationals attempting to infiltrate Pakistan either surrender, are captured, or are eliminated. Authorities have urged Afghan families to steer their children away from extremist groups.
