Actor Arshad Warsi swept up in fan frenzy over IPL wicket mix-up

Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi found himself at the center of an unexpected online frenzy after Gujarat Titans bowler Arshad Khan dismissed Virat Kohli during an IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday.

Kohli, who had started the tournament with an impressive unbeaten 59, was dismissed early in RCB’s first home match of the season. The dismissal happened in the second over when Kohli flicked a delivery from Arshad Khan straight to deep fine leg, where Prasidh Krishna took the catch.

Soon after, fans of Kohli mistakenly bombarded Arshad Warsi’s Instagram account with comments, confusing the actor with the young pacer. One user wrote, “Kohli ko out kyun kiya?” under Warsi’s recent post featuring a photo with actor Ajay Devgn. Another comment humorously read, “Ee Circuit, tu Kohli ka wicket kyun liya re?” referencing Warsi’s famous character from the Munna Bhai MBBS films.

The mix-up sparked a wave of memes and trolling across social media. Arshad Warsi has yet to publicly address the comments.

This isn’t the first time Kohli fans have confused names online. During the Champions Trophy, fans trolled electronics brand Philips after New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips took a catch to dismiss Kohli, mistakenly directing their frustration at the brand’s social media account.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans dominated the match. Mohammed Siraj, facing his former team, picked up 3 wickets for 19 runs, while Arshad Khan finished with 1 for 17. RCB was restricted to 169/8 in their 20 overs, with Liam Livingstone top-scoring with 54 off 40 balls and Tim David contributing 32 off 18. Gujarat chased the target with 13 balls to spare, with Jos Buttler remaining unbeaten on 73 off 39 balls, Sai Sudharsan adding 49, and Sherfane Rutherford finishing with 30* off 18 balls, securing Gujarat’s second win of the season.
