The meme, shared on X (formerly Twitter), portrayed Grimes as Glinda and Azealia as Elphaba from Wicked, which Grimes playfully responded to by suggesting it “would’ve been kinda lit,” hinting at a possible collaboration.
However, Azealia took offense, launching into a scathing response that criticized Grimes’ personal life, particularly her past relationship with Elon Musk. Banks accused Grimes of presenting herself as a victim, referencing Musk’s alleged mistreatment of her, and mocking her for not letting go of the past. She also called Grimes’ situation with Musk an example of “white female delusion” and criticized her for trying to use drama to divert attention.
In response, Grimes clarified that her initial comment was meant as a joke. She explained that she didn’t feel “dumped” but had left the relationship, emphasizing that she was content with her life and her child. Grimes also praised Azealia’s talents, calling her “insanely talented” and expressing admiration for her sharp wit, even acknowledging her as “the da Vinci of insults.”
Despite the exchange, Grimes expressed no animosity toward Azealia, wishing her well and highlighting her artistry.
