Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to households throughout the winter. During a review meeting in Islamabad, he emphasized the government’s priority to resolve gas shortages permanently.
Officials reported better gas management this year, with domestic consumers receiving gas from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily and reduced load-shedding compared to last year. Surplus RLNG in the system has improved supply, and all gas fields are fully operational. Online complaint dashboards for SNGPL and SSGC are addressing consumer issues with resolution rates of 93% and 79%, respectively.
The meeting also discussed reforms to implement uniform gas pricing for fertiliser manufacturers. Currently, differing gas tariffs create unfair profit margins, despite all manufacturers selling fertilisers at the same rates. Cabinet members called for revisiting flawed agreements that led to disparities and market distortions, urging equitable practices for the benefit of farmers.
