PM Shehbaz Summons Early CCI Meeting to Address Sindh’s Canal Concerns
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) today (Monday) following a request from the Sindh government, according to Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
Originally slated for May 2, the meeting was rescheduled to an earlier date after Sindh officials pushed for urgent discussions.
In a statement, Memon confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz will chair the session this evening in Islamabad. He noted that the primary focus will be on resolving issues related to canal development projects, with an important decision anticipated today.
Speaking on Geo News’ programme “Geo Pakistan,” Memon discussed the serious impact of ongoing protests in Sindh, which have severely disrupted traffic and hampered trade throughout the province.
“The movement of goods came to a standstill, damaging businesses and harming farmers who could not send their produce to other provinces,” Memon explained.
Although many protestors vowed to continue their demonstrations until a CCI decision is made, Memon expressed appreciation toward the federal government for responding swiftly by moving up the meeting date.
He emphasized that the government values dialogue and expressed hope that once the CCI reaches a decision, the protests would come to an end.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, along with other provincial leaders, will represent Sindh at today’s meeting.
