Explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port in Southern Iran Kills 25, Injures Over 1,100

An explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran on Saturday resulted in the death of 25 people, with 1,139 others injured, local sources reported on Sunday.

The Iranian State TV confirmed the toll and said that the explosion occurred after a fire broke out at around 12 pm local time (0830 GMT) in the container dock area of the port.

Initial reports pointed to the presence of flammable materials near the explosion site. According to witnesses, the small fire rapidly spread and, compounded by temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius, triggered the blast.

Shahid Rajaee Port, located in the strategic Hormozgan province about 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) southwest of Bandar Abbas, is a key facility near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil shipments.
