Gaza Faces Intensified Hunger Crisis as Food Supplies Run Out, Warns UNRWA

The Gaza Strip, devastated by ongoing conflict, has run out of food stocks, exacerbating the hunger crisis, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

In a statement released Sunday, the agency highlighted the dire situation: “Hunger is intensifying in Gaza.” Many residents, including numerous children, are relying on charitable organizations to provide them with meals for survival.

UNRWA also reported that its flour reserves have been depleted this week. “Approximately 3,000 UNRWA trucks carrying essential aid are ready to enter Gaza,” the statement read. “The blockade must end immediately.”

Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA’s Commissioner-General, criticized Israel’s ongoing blockade, stating that Palestinian children are facing starvation. “The Israeli government continues to prevent the entry of food and vital supplies,” Lazzarini said, calling it a “politically-driven starvation.”

Despite urgent appeals for humanitarian aid, calls to lift the blockade have gone unanswered.

Since March 2, Israel has kept Gaza’s borders shut to critical supplies like food, medical resources, and humanitarian assistance, exacerbating the already severe crisis. Nearly 51,500 Palestinians have lost their lives due to the ongoing violence since October 2023, with women and children making up the majority of casualties.

Additionally, the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel also faces a case of genocide at the International Court of Justice over its actions in Gaza.
