Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Grieves Loss of Pakistani Lives in Libya Boat Tragedy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep grief over the loss of four Pakistani citizens who died in a recent boat accident near the Harawa coast, close to Sirte in eastern Libya.

According to an official report sent by the Pakistani embassy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the incident took place on April 12. So far, 11 bodies have been recovered from the sea by rescue teams.

A delegation from the Pakistani embassy visited Sirte and confirmed the identities of the four Pakistani victims through their national ID documents. Among them, three were from Mandi Bahauddin and one from Gujranwala.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he was deeply saddened by the news from Pakistan’s Mission in Tripoli, which confirmed the deaths of at least four Pakistanis in the tragic event.

He assured that the Foreign Office and Pakistan’s embassy in Tripoli are closely collaborating with Libyan authorities to recover the bodies and coordinate with the families of the victims.

The prime minister also reiterated his government’s strong stance against human trafficking networks that exploit vulnerable citizens.

“We are intensifying efforts to take strict action against those who deceive our people into such deadly journeys. We will not rest until these traffickers are held accountable and such tragedies are prevented,” he emphasized.
