13 Terrorists Killed in South Waziristan, Two FC Personnel Martyred in IED Attack in Balochistan

PESHAWAR / SOUTH WAZIRISTAN / QUETTA: Thirteen terrorists were killed in a security operation in South Waziristan, while two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were martyred in an IED blast in Balochistan on Wednesday.

The intelligence-based operation (IBO) took place in South Waziristan’s Sararogha area after reports of militant activity. The terrorists, involved in attacks on security forces and civilian killings, were eliminated during the operation, according to the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). A sanitization operation is ongoing to clear any remaining militant elements. This operation followed an attack on a security checkpoint in Makin, South Waziristan, where 16 security personnel were martyred and eight militants killed during an intense firefight.

In the aftermath of the Makin attack, two Mehsud tribe villages were evacuated for safety, relocating around 50 families. While the evacuation was deemed necessary, local residents expressed concerns about the impact on their property and livelihoods. The government has yet to set up temporary shelters for the displaced families.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their success in South Waziristan, vowing to continue fighting terrorism until its complete eradication.

Meanwhile, in Balochistan’s Kech district, two FC personnel were martyred and four others injured in an IED attack while escorting Qatari royal family members ahead of their hunting expedition. The IED exploded when the advance team reached Dashat to secure the route. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.
