India’s Shreyas Iyer Named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March

DUBAI: Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March 2025, making it back-to-back wins for India after Shubman Gill claimed the honour in February.

Iyer emerged as the top contender, surpassing New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy and Rachin Ravindra to clinch the prestigious title. He finished March as the leading run-scorer, amassing 243 runs and playing a pivotal role in India’s victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.

Throughout the tournament, Iyer provided stability in the middle order, showcasing his calm temperament and sharp batting skills. His ability to anchor the innings and forge key partnerships proved crucial in India’s journey to the title.

Reacting to the announcement, Iyer expressed his gratitude:
“It’s a great honour to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March. This award holds special meaning as it comes during a month when we lifted the ICC Champions Trophy — a moment that will always stay with me.

“Being able to contribute to the team’s success at such a major event is something every cricketer aspires to. I’m thankful to my teammates, coaching staff, and all those who supported me throughout the journey.

“A big thank you to the fans as well — your support keeps us motivated at every step.”

The 30-year-old batter scored 172 runs across three games in March alone, averaging 57.33 with a strike rate of 77.47. He delivered several key performances, including a 79-run knock off 98 balls in a group-stage clash against New Zealand, helping India post 250 on a challenging pitch.

In the semi-final against Australia, Iyer contributed a steady 45 off 62 deliveries. He then wrapped up the tournament with an unbeaten 48 off 62 balls in the final — once again against New Zealand — guiding India to a memorable victory.
