President Donald Trump, long vocal about his dissatisfaction with water pressure in showers, signed an executive order on Wednesday to lift restrictions on water usage. He expressed a personal preference for stronger water flow, joking that it helps with his “beautiful hair.”
The executive order aims to reverse water conservation measures introduced by Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, particularly the rule limiting showerhead water flow to 2.5 gallons (9.5 liters) per minute. The White House fact sheet emphasized that the order is designed to remove “overregulation,” which it claims hinders personal freedom and economic growth.
Trump directed the Energy Department to revoke the Obama-Biden-era regulations, which also affected other water-using appliances like toilets and dishwashers. During the Oval Office signing ceremony, Trump explained that the current regulations forced him to stand under the shower for 15 minutes, which he called excessive. “Weβre going to open it up so people can live,” he stated.
