Netflix is making its debut in live sports this Christmas by streaming two NFL games: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans. The event will also feature special performances by Mariah Carey and Beyoncé.
Mariah Carey will perform her holiday hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” before the Steelers-Chiefs game at 1:00 p.m. ET, while Beyoncé will perform her song “Texas Hold ’Em” during halftime of the Texans-Ravens game. Netflix will offer commentary in multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and German.
While Netflix leads the broadcast, CBS affiliates will also air the games, as required by NFL rules. Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria expressed excitement about the partnership, calling it a way to deliver unique live experiences to a global audience.
Beyoncé’s teaser for the event, which humorously references streaming buffering, has generated buzz and added to the excitement. This collaboration between Netflix and the NFL reflects a larger strategy to increase viewership by combining top-tier sports with world-class entertainment.
