Jaime King Navigates Custody Battle and Legal Disputes Amid Personal Struggles
Actress Jaime King, best known for her role in *Hart of Dixie*, is currently facing significant personal and legal challenges, including a custody battle with her ex-husband and a dispute with her former landlord.
The 45-year-old star has been granted only supervised visits with her two sons, James, 11, and Leo, 9, after a judge awarded sole physical custody to her ex-husband, filmmaker Kyle Newman. The custody arrangement changed following King’s failure to complete a court-ordered six-month drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, as well as other required counseling. The modification came after Newman alleged he had found King “strung out” and “drunk” while she was caring for their children.
Simultaneously, King has been dealing with a legal conflict involving her former Los Angeles landlord, Sheila Irani. Court documents reveal that King owes approximately $42,580 in unpaid rent for a property she had leased since April 2023. Irani claims King stopped making payments in January 2024 and was eventually locked out of the residence due to non-payment.
In response to the allegations, King told *Us Weekly*, “The situation with my landlord was resolved privately. It’s disappointing—but not surprising—to see someone try to exploit this moment for attention. I am currently focused on what matters most: my children.”
King’s legal team has denied any intentional wrongdoing, explaining that she had been attempting to settle the debt but faced financial setbacks due to unforeseen circumstances, including disruptions caused by Los Angeles wildfires and ongoing litigation. Her attorneys stated that King had “expressed to [Irani] multiple times that she desires to pay the past due rent and vacate the premises prior to the end of the lease.”
Though the two parties reached a settlement, King remains responsible for additional costs for each day she stays in the property beyond the agreed move-out date. Despite these challenges, the actress has emphasized her commitment to prioritizing her children’s well-being.
This difficult period marks a series of personal and financial struggles for King as she works to rebuild stability in her life.
