Chris Rock Open to Hosting Oscars Again Despite Past Scandal

Chris Rock has opened up about the possibility of hosting the Oscars again, reflecting on his past experiences and the infamous 2022 incident involving Will Smith. The comedian, who previously hosted the awards show in 2005 and 2016, shared his thoughts during the Vanity Fair Oscars Party on Sunday night.

When asked by *E! News* if he would consider returning as an Oscars host, Rock responded, “You never know.” His answer comes two years after the highly publicized moment at the 2022 Oscars, where Will Smith slapped Rock onstage after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The incident sparked global headlines and led to Smith being banned from attending Academy events for 10 years.

Reflecting on the event, Rock emphasized the importance of forgiveness. “This is what I would say: the most miserable people on earth are people that can’t forgive. So, you never know,” he remarked. He also highlighted the significance of self-forgiveness, adding, “And not just people — you have to forgive yourself sometimes. So, hey, you never know.”

Rock attended the Oscars after-party with his youngest daughter, Zahra. He is also the father of 22-year-old Lola Simone Rock, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Malaak Compton-Rock.

While Rock’s comments suggest he hasn’t ruled out the idea of hosting the Oscars again, it remains uncertain whether he will take on the role in the future. His remarks indicate a willingness to move forward, both personally and professionally, leaving the door open for potential opportunities down the line.
