IMF Review Mission Set to Arrive Tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: A nine-member delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan tomorrow (Monday) to conduct an economic review before the disbursement of the next $1 billion installment from a $7 billion bailout package approved in August 2023.

Sources from the Ministry of Finance indicate that the delegation, led by Nathan Porter, will stay in Pakistan until March 15. During its two-week visit, the mission will initially engage in technical discussions, followed by policy-level negotiations with Pakistani authorities. Additionally, the IMF team will provide recommendations for the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, with any potential relief for the salaried class requiring IMF approval.

The mission will hold discussions with officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Planning, and the State Bank of Pakistan.

Talks will also take place with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), and other relevant government institutions and ministries.
