Gene Hackman and Wife Found Dead in Their Santa Fe Home; Investigation Raises Concerns
Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betty Arakawa, were discovered deceased in their Santa Fe residence, with authorities unable to determine the exact time of their passing.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza stated that while the bodies were found on Wednesday, February 26, evidence suggests they may have been deceased for several days—or even up to two weeks—prior to their discovery.
“Based on the condition of the bodies and other evidence, it appears they had been there for several days, possibly even a couple of weeks,” Sheriff Mendoza told the Today Show when asked about the estimated time of death.
Regarding whether the couple passed away simultaneously or at different times, Mendoza said it was difficult to establish a clear timeline. “I think it’s going to be pretty close,” he remarked.
One concerning detail from the scene was the presence of an orange prescription pill bottle near Betty Arakawa, with pills spilled out. Addressing this evidence, Mendoza stated, “That is a crucial piece of evidence. We’ve collected that information and passed it along to the medical examiner to assist in determining the cause of death. We are also examining other medications found at the residence.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover more details surrounding the couple’s deaths. Their pet dog was also found deceased in the home.
