Lahore-Karachi Train to Start Under Green Line Model

The CEO of Pakistan Railways, Aamir Ali Baloch, announced plans to launch a new train service between Lahore and Karachi based on the Green Line model. This will include upgrading all train coaches in stages.

During a virtual meeting with the public, Baloch emphasized that improving passenger services is a top priority for Pakistan Railways. He explained that the railways now have the technology to make new coaches locally, so there’s no need to import them anymore.

Baloch also mentioned that Pakistan Railways was able to restart the Bolan Express in just 45 days using its own resources. Additionally, the railways are repairing tracks and bridges damaged by rain without outside help.

He directed officials to improve services at stations like Padidan and Sialkot, including providing clean drinking water, more benches, and better facilities.

When asked about illegal occupations on railway land in Faisalabad, Baloch ordered swift action to reclaim the land from encroachers.

Regarding onboard services, he called for better food quality and cleanliness, urging passengers to help keep trains clean.

The e-kachehri event had over 35,000 participants and received around 6,500 comments.

Additionally, Pakistan Railways has introduced a 50% discount on fares for people with disabilities (PWDs) traveling on express and passenger trains (except the Green Line). PWDs can avail the discount by showing a CNIC with the disability logo, and their attendants will also get the discount.

At major stations, wheelchairs are available for PWDs, along with special counters for booking tickets. Some stations also offer free access to executive washrooms for PWDs, with plans to add 12 more stations with these facilities soon.
