The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has said that a decision about where India’s matches will be played in the 2025 Champions Trophy will be made today (Sunday). He assured that the board will ensure that cricket is not affected by this.
His comments follow the announcement by the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the 2025 Men’s Champions Trophy will be held using a hybrid model. India will play its matches at a neutral venue, not in Pakistan. The ICC confirmed that matches between India and Pakistan in upcoming ICC events from 2024 to 2027 will be held at neutral venues.
Under the same arrangement, Pakistan will play in ICC events hosted by India at venues yet to be decided.
On another note, Naqvi also mentioned a big event being planned for Karachi. The National Stadium in Karachi is being renovated for future events. The PCB chairman visited the stadium and inspected repairs, giving orders to speed up the installation of a new scoreboard and LED lights. He announced that the new stadium building would be ready in a month, with parking for 2,700 vehicles.
Naqvi also said that a tri-nation series could be hosted at the National Stadium before the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Regarding Pakistan’s former head coach, Jason Gillespie, Naqvi explained that the head coach’s role is to train the team, while the selection committee chooses players. He added that players who perform well will be selected to play for Pakistan.
