Lok Virsa Hosts Cultural Events to Mark Kashmir Solidarity Day

ISLAMABAD – Lok Virsa organized a vibrant cultural event to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day, drawing visitors from across the city. The program aimed to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) while reaffirming support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

One of the main highlights was the artisan-at-work exhibition, where skilled Kashmiri craftsmen demonstrated traditional wood carving, paper mache art, and intricate embroidery. Visitors admired beautifully crafted walnut wood boxes, decorative mirror frames, and finely woven shawls displayed at various stalls.

“The craftsmanship is truly remarkable. Each piece reflects Kashmir’s deep artistic traditions,” said Hina Iqbal, who purchased a handmade jewelry box as a keepsake. Another attendee, Ahmed Raza, praised the embroidery section, stating, “These Kashmiri shawls are stunning. The intricate designs and vibrant colors showcase the artisans’ dedication.”

A powerful photographic exhibition showcased the harsh realities of Indian oppression in occupied Kashmir. The images evoked strong emotions among visitors, sparking discussions about the ongoing struggles faced by Kashmiris. “These pictures are heartbreaking and remind us of the sacrifices Kashmiris endure daily,” said Rafay Malik, a student at the event.

The program also featured captivating Kashmiri folk music performances, with artists dressed in traditional attire singing soulful melodies and playing classical instruments. Additionally, a seminar on Kashmiri cultural heritage brought together scholars and activists, who emphasized the need to preserve and promote Kashmir’s unique identity.
