Hafiz Naeem criticizes govt over inflation and economic crisis

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has sharply criticized the government for its failure to control inflation and address the country’s economic problems, despite multiple assurances of relief.

During a media interaction in Faisalabad, Hafiz Naeem highlighted the alarming inflation rate, which rose by 20% last year and surged by another 18% this month. He pointed out that Faisalabad’s economy has been severely impacted, with more than 50% of its textile mills closing down, leading to widespread job losses. He noted that the economic crisis in Faisalabad is mirrored in other major cities like Karachi and Lahore.

The JI leader also called for a reduction in electricity prices to help stabilize the nation’s economy. He mentioned his discussions with Mohsin Naqvi regarding potential revisions of agreements with independent power producers (IPPs), but stressed that such talks need to result in real actions to reduce electricity tariffs. Hafiz Naeem warned that if electricity costs remain high, the public would be compelled to organize large protests.
