Zendaya Fans Outraged Over Challengers Oscar Snub
Zendaya fans are expressing frustration after the actress was overlooked for an Oscar nomination for her role in Challengers, with some calling it a “robbery.” The 28-year-old actress portrayed tennis player Tashi Duncan in the sports drama, earning a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. However, her name was missing from the list of Oscar nominees announced on Thursday.
It wasn’t only Zendaya who was snubbed; the entire film Challengers failed to secure any Oscar nominations. Critics on X voiced their discontent with the Academy for overlooking the film, particularly the work of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who composed the movie’s score.
One user expressed their anger, writing, “Zendaya got robbed real bad for Challengers, now she’ll never do anything close to a comedy movie anytime soon.” Another fan tweeted, “No Challengers nomination is actually crazy. They hate to see a tennis throuple and Zendaya looking hot.”
Some fans were so disappointed they described the snub as devastating, with one stating they “fell to my knees” upon realizing that Dune: Part Two, another film featuring Zendaya, earned five nominations, while Challengers received none.
“Zendaya is going to the Oscars for Dune and not Challengers… fell to my knees,” another fan posted.
One particularly frustrated user labeled the exclusion as “evil,” adding, “No noms for Challengers is baffling to me. Insanely electric filmmaking with an unbeatable screenplay that drives the movie. Best shot film of the year too. No nods for score is evil. No nods for Zendaya is especially evil.”
Other users expressed disbelief over the snub, with one writing, “How is Challengers not nominated in a SINGLE category… oh Luca Guadagnino oh my Zendaya I’m so sorry.” Another fan lamented the lack of recognition for the film’s score, calling it “absolutely stupid,” adding that Reznor and Ross deserved better for their phenomenal work.
Despite being shut out of the Oscar race, Challengers has received other accolades, including a Golden Globe for Best Original Score. Zendaya also earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, although she did not win.
