Power Outages Affect Hundreds in North Staffordshire as Storm Éowyn Strikes
Hundreds of households in North Staffordshire are facing power outages as Storm Éowyn brings strong winds to the region. The National Grid had already prepared by putting additional teams on standby to address potential disruptions caused by the storm.
In Tittensor and Barlaston, approximately 679 homes lost power early this morning due to a fault in the high voltage network. Most of these homes have since had their power restored, but 191 remain without electricity. In Eccleshall, 35 homes, particularly in the areas around Shaws Lane, Trinity Road, and Cross Butts, are still without power, reportedly due to a blown fuse. SP Energy Networks is working to repair the damage, with most power expected to be restored in Eccleshall by 10am, and in Tittensor and Barlaston by noon.
Additionally, eight properties in the Roundwell Street area of Tunstall are without power, with restoration expected by 4pm.
Power outages are also being reported in South Cheshire, affecting areas like Nantwich, Haslington, and Congleton.
As for the weather, meteorologists predict wind speeds of up to 57mph in North Staffordshire as Storm Éowyn continues to impact the region. The strong gusts have already led to several cancellations and closures. A yellow weather warning is in place for Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle, and the Moorlands, lasting from midnight until 11:59 pm tonight.
The UK is also under varying wind warnings, with amber alerts for northern areas, and red warnings issued for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland. According to the Met Office, wind speeds in Stoke-on-Trent will reach between 52mph and 57mph until 2 pm today. Wind conditions will start to ease in the afternoon, with gusts expected to drop to the 20s by the evening. Leek may experience gusts up to 58mph, while Newcastle could see winds of 57mph.
Despite the strong winds, the day will remain dry and sunny, with temperatures reaching a high of 7°C. However, the wind will make it feel closer to 1°C.
