Pakistan’s cricket team has been fined 25% of their match fees and had five points deducted from the ICC World Test Championship following a slow over-rate in the Cape Town Test against South Africa.
The penalty was imposed by Elite Panel Match Referee Richie Richardson after Pakistan failed to complete the required overs within the designated time, as per an ICC media release.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct Article 2.22, teams are fined 5% of their match fees for each over bowled short of the required number. Additionally, under Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship’s playing conditions, a team loses one point for every over under the required total.
Pakistan’s captain, Shan Masood, took responsibility for the breach and accepted both the offence and the penalty.
