India’s Potential Champions Trophy Squad Amid Bumrah Injury Reports

Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness has become a significant concern after he suffered back spasms during the closing stages of India’s recent tour of Australia, forcing him to miss bowling in the second innings of the fifth Test in Sydney.

With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 approaching, the BCCI is reportedly considering resting Bumrah for most of the upcoming white-ball series against England to prioritize his recovery and readiness for the marquee tournament.

Reports suggest the severity of Bumrah’s injury remains uncertain, with his Champions Trophy participation hinging on further assessment. Concerns have grown over his workload, as the 30-year-old pacer played a crucial role in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, bowling 151.2 overs across five Tests and emerging as the leading wicket-taker with 32 dismissals at an average of 13.06, including three five-wicket hauls.

If Bumrah’s injury is classified as Grade 1, he could recover in 2-3 weeks. A Grade 2 diagnosis might require up to six weeks, while a Grade 3 injury could necessitate three months of rehabilitation.

India’s immediate schedule includes a five-match T20I series against England starting January 22, followed by three ODIs. Initially, Bumrah was expected to skip the T20Is but was slated to play at least two ODIs to gear up for the Champions Trophy. However, depending on his recovery timeline, he may miss the entire ODI series or participate in just one match.

The Champions Trophy is set to commence on February 19, with India playing their opening game against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.
